Oh!
The Weather Outside!
|
|
|
Outside
the air is crisp and cool and tastes of nostalgic aromas.
Bright neon summer colors are being replaced with burnt
oranges, deep reds, and golden yellows. It's finally
here! October is one of my favorite times of the year.
It is a special "in-between" time, when the
Earth is getting ready for the Dark Time - Winter. Each
day that passes brings us closer and closer to the Otherworld,
or the Spirit World. We are starting to become more
receptive to the energies around us. Our metabolisms
are starting to slow down and our minds are beginning
to shift from active, projective states to calm more
receptive states.

October's
New Moon is the ideal time to pamper yourself. Take
a day, afternoon, or even an hour or two just for yourself.
Don't feel guilty! Life will keep on going even if you
sit a while for a pedicure. And afterwards, the people
in your life will be glad that you are no longer freaking
out over the proper way to fold the dish towels! So
do it! Exfoliate, condition, and massage yourself. Then,
after you are feeling all cozy and gorgeous, find a
quiet area, sit in front of a mirror, and light a link
candle. Meditate on your face (pretty toes, super soft
hair...well, you get it). Recognize your beauty - physical,
mental, emotional, and spiritual. Then visualize a pretty
pink light shining down on you from above. Allow this
light to fill your aura, enter your body through every
tight little pore, filling you up to your very soul.
Come back to yourself and allow any excess energy filter
back to the earth by placing your palms on the ground.
This pink light is now a part of you. Call on it whenever
you are feeling down, exhausted, or just need a little
pick-me-up.

The Full
Moon in October is called the Blood Moon. A smoldering fire
high in the Autumn sky, the Blood Moon acts as a beacon for
spiritual energy. Utilize this energy by reflecting on this
past year. Think about all that you have accomplished as well
as the goals still yet to be met. This is a season of letting
go. Light a black candle and think about all of the disappointments,
regrets, and negativity from this past year. Then light a
white candle and let all those nasties drain right out of
you - let them go. You no longer need them - and you are going
to need room for all of the wonderful things waiting for you
in the upcoming year. Another great October spell
is to take the pumpkin seeds left over from your Jack-o-lantern,
name each one for something (or someone) you no longer want
or need in your life. Then toss each seed, one by one, into
a fire.

Trick
or Treat |

Samhain,
or Halloween as it is called today, is the Main holiday in
October. It's the Witches' New Year - the most mystical and
magickal time of the year. It is the time when we celebrate
family and loved ones by honoring those who have crossed over.
Celebrate all month long by decorating your home or office
with symbols of change, such as pumpkins, gourds, dried cornstalks,
and hay bails. Involve your kids (if you have them) in this
special sabbat by letting them create Jack-o-lanterns. Fun
and easy to make, Jack-o-lanterns will, at the same time,
scare away any negative energy and light the way for positive
energy and spirits, and help them find their way home to their
families for this one night. Leave apples near your front
door or use them as a centerpiece for your dinning table.
These apples are said to "feed" those who have passed
on. Some cultures will hold a Dumb Supper, where family gets
together for a meal and sets places at the table for certain
ancestors. Another great activity for Samhain is divination.
Any kind will do - rune
stones, tarot
cards, pendulums.
And don't forget to have a Samhain
Circle, or seance,
where we try to contact the dead to gain comfort and wisdom.
