The
"In-Between" Times
|
|
|
September,
the 9th month of the year, rules the sign of Virgo which
represents the maiden in the God/dess Triad. There is
no other time like September. The days are warm, evenings
are cool, and each day gets shorter and shorter. The
birds are staring to fly south and the leaves are beginning
to turn, coloring the world with beautiful golds, oranges,
and reds. Inside, we begin to stock up for the upcoming
winter. And the sweet smells of berries and melons start
to give way to the earthy scents of apples and pumpkins.

Dance,
Drink, & Be Merry! |
|
The
Full Moon in September is the Harvest Moon, and probably
the best known Full Moon of the year. Gather with friends
and family. Share some wine. Yes, white wine is usually
a popular beverage during a Full Moon, but this Moon
it means even more. The Harvest Moon is also known as
the Wine Moon. Traditionally, people would gather outside
and dance in circles while sipping white wine from silver
goblets – often in praise of Bacchus or Dionysus, the
gods of grapes, wine and creativity. The Harvest Moon
is also a great time to meditate and take stock of your
life to see what - and who - has expired and needs replacing!
After wards relax with some wine or cider. Be sure to
leave some for Spirit and pour a bit onto the Earth
in thanks for all your blessings.

Don't
Be Scared! |
|
|
September’s
main holiday is Mabon or the Autumn Equinox. At Mabon we celebrate
the second harvest, waving goodbye to the long hot sunny days,
and open our arms to welcome the Dark Season. To honor this
sabbat, decorate with gourds, corn, squash, and grape leaves.
Embrace the wanning light by making a scarecrow for your yard.
One fun and easy idea is to wrap a small ball with some raffia
and tie with a string for a neck. Make four gathers of the
raffia for arms and legs. Then use felt or scraps of cloth
to dress and decorate your scarecrow. This craft is a great
way to include the kids in your rituals. Charge the scarecrow
to protect your home and family. Then hang it on your front
door and let it do it work!

Get
Well With a Spell |
|
This month’s
New Moon is a great time to perform healing spells to help
ward off those back-to-school colds and to help build up your
immune system for the upcoming “flue season”. To do this,
light a green candle and place it next to a glass of spring
water. Envision a ray of white light entering your body through
the top of your head, the Crown Chakra. Let this light fill
your whole body and surround you. Once you are full, put your
hands over the water. Now envision the white light flow into
the glass. Now drink the water. This will work best if you
do it regularly.
